We had a wonderful start to the month with a visit from Nana. She brought Easter goodies and wonderful gramma love. Windsor and River enjoyed many special days with Nana to include swimming, bounce house visits and ice cream! We still believe one of the hardest parts of doing this work is being far from grandparents. But we cherish the time we do have and we’re thankful that in just a few months, we’ll be back stateside ourselves for more memories together! Nana also joined us for our first Easter Egg hunt we hosted among several other missionary and Horizon church families in the new Multiuso. It was a huge success

Fourteen of our boys qualified for a Boys Camp Out night at Finca de Esperanza, a 500 acre farm owned by Horizon Church. They earned discipleship points each Sunday from January until April. A portion of the Finca Esperanza farm is used to help rehabilitate men who face addiction. Our boys started their time at the finca hearing testimonies of men who’ve overcome addiction. The men shared encouragement for our boys to keep the straight and narrow, despite the temptations to become involved in drugs in their neighborhoods. They played soccer, swam and pitched their tents for many fireside chats with two of our interns, Simon and Israel. We bid farewell to these two wonderful interns who spent five months living with Sampson and Chloe, partner missionaries here and directors at the finca. We will miss them but are super excited about new interns to come in the fall to carry on the good work with our boys. God is so good to provide!!!

This month we completed ALL the construction in the new stage project and classroom build. The stage has been put to use as well with many teachings and lots of singing! It’s been incredible! Thank you to everyone who stepped up in so many ways to make sure we had every last detail funded! We are happy to report that each need was met in a timely fashion and the students are reaping the benefits weekly! Thank you for your ongoing support. We often stand in awe at all that the Lord has done in such a short time!

Horizon Church’s Middle School Trek Program invited 10 of our NOW Costa Rica students to Trek camp. We have several volunteers who provide support in the way of transportation ministry and our students have been able to regularly attend middle and high school youth groups at horizon. So to be invited to attend the camp was just a wonderful delight for these students. Horizon also helped with scholarships. We are very thankful for the church and its role in the lives of the students.

We are excitedly planning a vision trip in May through Allen Taliaferro’s church in Atlanta, Dunwoody Baptist Church and two mission trip teams in June. The Beale Memorial Baptist Church team will put on a 3-day women’s conference, build a swing set and two bunk beds for families in need and help run a VBS and several other teachings for various ministry partners. Mark Bazill, family and friends from Florida will come to lead our boys through a Basketball camp, both our NOW Costa Rica boys and boys from River’s basketball team at the church school. Won’t you be in prayer with us over these experiences? That will be three teams in just five weeks. We’re expecting a mighty impact for our students and families!
For three years in a row, we have had the privilege of partnering with TACO Comfort Solutions, a generous company with a family mindset. They attend a fishing tournament once a year at Los Suenos. Each year they raise support within their attendees at the tournament to support NOW Costa Rica and this year with the help of A Reel Difference, we were able to secure 50 food bags for families in need. TACO staff and supporters helped to distribute the “diarios” which is about a week’s worth of groceries to families in Cristo Rey. TACO Comfort Solutions has made a pledge to help support our efforts for upcoming construction and we are genuinely thankful for their partnership.

After our last three mission teams visit, we will make our way to the US for our stateside visit. We aim to speak to churches and groups interested in helping us fund upcoming projects to include the need for another ministry van and a teaching pool. As we enter our 7th year of ministry, we realize the wear and tear on vehicles happens fast in coastal towns like ours. We provide transportation for students sometimes 3-4 times per week to various classes and our mission teams use the van as well. We see a need for an additional van which we hope to buy in the near future, Lord willing. Secondly, in 2022 and many years since, we’ve come to sympathize with the families of NOW Costa Rica who face flash floods in their homes sometimes up to their shoulders and have no swimming or water safety survival skills. We believe having a swimming pool used for instruction will help tremendously in aiding families in flash floods or rip tides. If you or anyone you know wants to hear more about these needs, please message us.
Pray for our summer travel schedule and let us know if we’re in your area this summer. May God bless you this season. May the signs of spring remind you of His ever renewing spirit available to us each new day.
