2025: January

Greetings! We hope this newsletter finds you well. We have had a busy, but fruitful season of ministry this month and started the New Year in community with our church family, Horizon International Church, building a sandman on the beach!  We had an unusually rainy Christmas season so we kept our tradition of building our sandman, but on New Year’s Day.  January 5th, we celebrated 5 years of living in Costa Rica and are continuously thankful for the church community around us, both here on the ground and in the US supporting our work.  We could not do this without partners like you.

In Costa Rica, the school year ends mid December and “summer break” spans about two months until early February.  We took advantage of the calm property and lack of construction to host a summer intensive course for eight weeks for younger girls, older girls, their mothers and for boys.  All students were able to work through a “New Life in Christ” series for a portion of the coursework and basic or intermediate English classes.  Each student received a new, leather bound bible and skills through the discipleship course for developing habits around prayer, daily scripture reading and living in Christian community/accountability.  Jordanna especially enjoyed hosting the first ever class for women/moms.  On average about 8-10 women have consistently shown up on Mondays and Thursdays, walking sometimes over a mile in the mid-day sun for the courses.  They continue to teach us what life is like living in poverty, with deep ties to Nicaragua.  Yesterday was our last class.  Students with 80% attendance and routine completed homework will join in for a fun day next month to celebrate their hard work.  Throughout the 16 total classes offered, we’ve hosted more than 100 people on the property during the summer for courses.  One of our very early on discipled boys, Dany, stepped up to the plate this season and led most of the teaching for the boys.  We are so impressed with his knowledge of scripture, willingness to explain hard concepts in front of the whole group, and dedication to giving back. Please pray for Dany, as he is just 16, but we see big plans God has for his giftings here. Thank you to everyone who helped supply resources for a much bigger outreach this season.

We were blessed to have a team from Pennsylvania come to put on a field day for our students.  We had 75 girls and their families come for a time of fellowship, learning, pizza and games.  Students walked away with goodie bags of school supplies to start out the new school year.

As our students settle into another school year, we are excited to be offering a new class focusing on the transition to high school.  In Costa Rica, there is no middle school and most of our students live within walking distance to their local elementary school.  They begin, by law, attending classes at the age of four.  Because teachers and class space is limited, they either go to school in the morning or afternoon each day.  Once they graduate 6th grade, at about age 11, they transition to high school.  The only high school in our area is the one located in Jaco.  As you have learned in praying and supporting us in ministry, you know that Jaco boasts the reputation of being a leading sex tourism destination and the town is ridden with bars, prostitutes, drugs and more.  Of course the high school is a direct reflection of that and also is under-resourced to help students navigate the temptations around them daily.  This is why our work is so important, because at the age of 11 or 12 years old, girls and boys are getting on buses to enter high school in Jaco and face the realities of a much more harsh setting.  The Lord brought us a new intern named Sofia Solano.  She went to the high school in Jaco and is now pursuing a degree in Social Work.  She has asked to do her internship here focusing on talking with girls aged 8-14 about the drastic transition they will face or have already faced in going to high school in Jaco.  We will also continue with English classes, bible studies for the mother’s and our boys classes.  Please keep us in prayer as we navigate weekend classes for our students, pray that the Holy Spirit will penetrate the hearts of the girls and families and keep them safe always.

We have just booked our tickets for our summer return trip to Virginia and the surrounding area.  We land June 16th and will be states-side for two months!  We are so excited to be with all our church families and invite you to consider booking Jordanna for an awareness talk, sermon or class teaching women, youth or whole congregations.  We know the problem of sex trafficking is not only in Costa Rica but rampant worldwide.  It would bring us great joy to provide some training to your church’s leaders, staff or students.  Of course a sweet 10 and 7 year old by the name of Windsor and River will tag along and want to enjoy some nearby American amenities.  They are most excited for chick fil a, amazon deliveries to nana’s porch and seeing friends and family.

Thank you to everyone who supported the effort to ensure the Multiuso Casita was completed.  We now have a fully operating kitchen and ample bathroom facilities and storage for classes on the property.  We are currently meeting as a whole group under two tents as we eagerly await the funds for the Sports Complex of the Multipurpose or Multiuso to be completed.  We have 18% of the needed remaining funds to build the open area, sports and teaching space. It will provide us with much more space to make a greater impact.  Join us today in praying for the funds to arrive by August so we can break ground on this much needed structure in the fall.

Five years ago, when the Ailor family planned to move to Costa Rica, Jordanna was given a laptop and a dual sim card phone from the wonderfully supportive Susan Eastwood, that she was using in Kenya, where they have served as missionaries for over a decade.  The Eastwoods have been such a supportive couple to us as we have launched a chapter of their already existing organization.  The battery life, functionality and usage of both the laptop and the phone have had a good, full, five years of usage but are now needing to be replaced.  It is our hope to find an affordable or donated laptop top and dual sim card phone for Jordanna to continue to use in ministry on the ground.  If you or anyone you know, may be able to help with this need, please let us know.  It’s essential tools like these that help us reach, plan, research, pray and stay connected.

We pray the Lord’s blessings on each of you, that your support for us be multiplied through our students, your families and the overall Kingdom of God.  Thanks for caring about this particular population and we hope to see you in our coming visit to the States.  Please take a moment and send us an email to let us know how we can pray for you.  As we partner with you, we like to lift you up in prayer as you mobilize us.

God bless,

Jordanna, fam & team
